In order to strengthen the National TB Program (NTP) in the province, the Provincial Government of Cavite thru the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. George R. Repique, Jr., in cooperation with the Department of Health, the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and USAID joined the nation in celebrating World TB Day on March 31, 2016 at the Cavite Collaboration Center for Public Health Auditorium in Trece Martires City. Carrying the theme “Unite to End TB”, NTP coordinators, and various partners including city/municipal health officers, medical practitioners and staff of public and some private hospitals, representatives from different agencies such as the Office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, DOH, DepEd, DOLE, DILG and Rural Health Units (RHUs), as well as delegates from TB DOTS-providing and referring hospitals participated in the event.
Participants in the celebration were recognized by Dr. Gilbert Ilog, head of the PHO-Technical Division. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Ilog proudly shared that the province is performing better in the past three years up to present, disclosing significant improvement on TB case detection and treatment success rates. Regional NTP Coordinator Dr. Eva Marie Torio from DOH and by Dr. Karen Dalawangbayan from PBSP also delivered cordial messages. Dr. Torio inspired everyone with some real life TB-related stories, while Dr. Dalawangbayan acknowledged the noticeable increase in the number of partners who joined the celebration.
