Health is wealth – we may consider this cliché old but never threadbare. Our daily activities consume our lives to a point that we remain clueless about diseases that could bend our future until it exist within our bodies. To aid the unstoppable health crisis that Filipinos continuously embattles with today, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan enacted Provincial Ordinances that officially declare 2 important events that should be closely observed by Caviteños. During its 61st Regular Session last September 29, 2014, presided over by Hon. Teofilo B. Lara, the said ordinances were mainly sponsored by Hon. Raul Rex D. Mangubat and Hon. Larry Boy S. Nato.
Provincial Ordinance No. 090, entitled, An Ordinance Declaring the Month of January of Every Year as Liver Cancer and Viral Hepatitis Awareness and Prevention Month of the Province of Cavite, intends to confront two notorious diseases in the province. In 2013, reports showed that the province had 50 liver cancer cases and 1 viral hepatitis case. Although the rates implied a decrease of threat by recording a total of 12 liver cancer cases and 2 viral hepatitis cases in 2014, the SP would like to ensure that Cavite will not become complacent. The provincial government, through the initiative of Provincial Health Office, could raise the public’s awareness and further secure preventive measures, more especially on the month of January.
