ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN FOR CYBER SAFETY

Cavite Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) thru the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) conducted an Orientation on Anti-Child Pornography Act at Lalaan Central Elementary School in the municipality of Silang on November 12, 2019. In partnership with the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) IV-A and the Department of Education (DepEd), more than 100 students with their teachers from elementary and high school participated the event. With the theme “Cyber Safety is my Responsibility”, the orientation aims to provide knowledge on the safe use of internet and safeguard the young against child pornography and online sexual exploitation. The program which was initiated last year focus on the advocacy campaign on the protection rights of children. Series of orientations this year will be conducted in the cities of General Trias and Bacoor and the municipalities of Amadeo, Alfonso (Public and Private) and Magallanes with 100 target participants each. Discussion on RA 9775 or the Anti Child Pornography Act was facilitated by Ms. Brendalyn Salazar, Social Welfare Officer IV and Ms. Rhea Cainday Mendoza, SWO I of PSWDO. Aside from the knowledge gained, students enjoyed the child-friendly short clips and film as well as the prizes in the question and answer portion.  Organizers and advocates hope that the participants will roll out and share their learnings to other children in their school and community.
