Cavite celebrates Leprosy Prevention and Control Week 2018

In observance of the Leprosy Prevention and Control Week every third week of February, the Provincial Government of Cavite in partnership with the Department of Health, the City Government of General Trias and the Department of Education conducted a simultaneous lecture, consultation and poster-making contest on February 22, 2018 at the Luis Y. Ferrer, Jr. Senior High School, Pasong Kawayan II, City of General Trias, Cavite.  This year’s theme which is “Prevent Disabilities in Children Find, Treat and Cure All Leprosy Cases,” aims to deepen public awareness on the disease, its prevention and treatment.

Dr. Jonathan Loseco, General Trias City Health Officer encouraged the 12th graders to pay attention to all the lectures and short film viewing. Likewise, JCI-Katipunan President Kyle Salazar delivered a message on behalf of Gen. Trias Committee on Health Chair and PCL-Cavite President BM Kerby Salazar, stressing the importance of early detection and treatment of leprosy.  On the other hand, Ms. Haydeliza Maderazo, Provincial NLCP Coordinator shared the 2016-2017 statistics of leprosy cases in Gen. Trias and for the whole province; while Ms. Cristina Ann Buenaagua, NLCP Regional Director focused her discussion on Leprosy and Skin Care.

Aside from the series of talks and lectures that helped raise awareness among students, a Poster-Making Contest was also held. Among 12 participants, Ms. Annaly M. Legaspi bagged the first place with P1,500.00 cash prize and a certificate of recognition, Mr. Chrestian M. Punay and Ms. Aira Andrea D. Fortuno bagged the 2nd and 3rd places respectively with P1,000.00 and P500.00 cash prizes plus certificates of recognition.
