DOH SEC CALLS FOR EFFORTS TO ERADICATE DENGUE

Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III calls for collaborative efforts to totally eradicate the rampant outbreak of dengue during his visit to the province of Cavite on August 5, 2019. Secretary Duque made rounds at the Pediatric, Dengvaxia and Medical wards to personally see the conditions of patients and assess the quality of service given to them. In a discussion cum press briefing that followed, he emphasized the importance of prevention of the occurrence of dengue as he encouraged all the local chief executives to make necessary actions in order to lessen and totally eradicate dengue cases nationwide.  By virtue of Provincial Board Resolution No. 1246-2019, Cavite has been declared under state of calamity due to the dengue outbreak on July 16, 2019 to expedite the release of emergency funds. During Sec. Duque’s visit, 6th District Board Member and Chairperson on the Committee on Health, Nutrition and Population Kerby Salazar represented Governor Jonvic Remulla and Vice Governor Jolo Revilla. Other local government officials present were Cavite Councilor’s League President Benzen Raleigh Rusit, GMA Mayor Walter Echevaria, GMA Vice Mayor Maricel Torres, Maragondon Mayor Reynaldo Rillo, Indang Mayor Perfecto Fidel, General Emilio Aguinaldo Mayor Nelia Angeles, City of Bacoor Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Alde Pagulayan, Mayor’s League President Mayor Frederick Vida of the municipality of Mendez, Ternate Mayor Lamberto Bambao and Alfonso Mayor Randy Salamat  who have committed to monitor the situation in their localities and immediately respond  to dengue alerts. Also, in attendance were Provincial Health Officer-in-Charge Dr. Romulo Lua, Dr. Nelson Soriano, and Dr. Aldous Angeles who explained the Cavite Provincial Emergency Response Plan for the Dengue Epidemic. Dr. Soriano tackled the actions taken to eradicate dengue and other vector-borne diseases in Cavite including the coordination and cooperation efforts with other government and private agencies for vector control activities on solid waste management, uninterrupted water supply, drainage management and behavioral change including health seeking behavior.  DOH CALABARZON Assistant Regional Director Dr. Noel Pasion and Dr. Agnes Remulla, wife of Governor Jonvic Remulla, city/municipal health officers, medical professionals and some media practitioners also joined the activity on dengue outbreak prevention and control.
