In view of the celebration of the National Youth Day, the Provincial Government of Cavite thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office in partnership with the Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines spearheaded the event with the theme “Mental Health Awareness for Youth” desired to raise the consciousness of the young people about mental health issues and promote a healthy lifestyle and mentally-resilient community on October 30, 2018 at the Provincial Gymnasium in Trece Martires City.
Ms. Brendalyn L. Salazar, Social Welfare Officer III of PSWDO facilitated the whole-day session which was attended by 160 youths from different cities and municipalities in the province.
During the assembly, National Secretary General of Youth for Mental Health Coalition Ms. Ray Alyannah Ysabel Lagasca discussed the topic ” Mental Health for Youth ” as she educated everyone on the right behaviors in dealing with pressure. She advised the youth to recognize the things and situations that triggered them, exercise proper time management and remain to have a positive perception about things. She also echoed that mistakes should be treated as stepping stones to success and reminded everyone that the words that they will utter and the actions that they will do may affect the mental well-being of the people around them.
Meanwhile, Supervising Cooperative Development Specialist Atty. Khervy B. Reyes who attended on behalf of Governor Jesus Crispin “Boying” C. Remulla expressed his gratefulness for such meaningful program and congratulated everyone who participated in the occasion.
In the afternoon, the event was highlighted with the Spoken Poetry Competition joined by 16 participants who shared their insights on mental health awareness. Ms. Maurice Balolong of Dasmariñas City was hailed as the champion while Mr. Rico Jay Eroyla Balinsohe of the City of General Trias and Mr. Joey Basijan of the City of Dasmariñas bagged the 1st and 2nd place , respectively.
Members of the Division Federated Supreme Student Government of Dasmariñas under the Youth Formation Program of Dasmariñas were also in attendance to show their commitment in boosting the youth’s mental health consciousness.
