Cavite Holds Post Elderly Week Celebration

    In recognition to the significant role of our elderly in nation building, the Provincial Government of Cavite thru the PSWDO-Senior Citizens and Persons with Disability Unit headed by Ms. Fely G. Servañez held the Post Elderly Week Celebration with the theme “Pagmamahal at Respeto ng Nakababata, Nakapagpapaligaya sa Nakatatanda” at Provincial Gymnasium, Trece Martires City on February 1, 2017.

   In behalf of Gov. Boying Remulla, Mr. Rolly Alvaran, former Vice Mayor of GMA and Executive Assistant to the Governor delivered an inspirational message acknowledging the important contributions of the senior citizens in the progress of the province. “Kung wala kayo noon, nasaan kami ngayon? Kung wala kayo noon, ano na ang Cavite ngayon?”, he said. He also stressed that the governor urged the seniors to remain productive and continue to be partners of the administration. The governor in return is extending his all-out support for them and their welfare.

   During the program, nine (9) out of 30 centenarians were present with ages ranging from 100-107 were awarded with P10,000 each. Indigent senior citizens coming from different cities and municipalities were given gifts/groceries as part of the Kalinga sa Nakatatanda Project of the DSWD. The Provincial Federation of Senior Citizens Association  was also recognized followed by a lecture on the celebration’s theme which was discussed by Mr. Ricky Bunao, Sectoral Unit Head of DSWD Region IV-A.

   A total of 950 attendees enjoyed the song renditions, poem and dances performed by the senior citizens from the City of Dasmariñas, Amadeo, GMA, Silang, Alfonso and Maragondon. Also present were Mr. Alvin S. Mojica, PCLEDO Head/PSWDOConsultant; BM Reinalyne Varias, Chair of the Committee on Women, Family and Social Services; Local Social Welfare Development Officers; Federation Officers and members, and employees from the various local government units of Cavite.
