To raise public awareness about the widespread surge of tuberculosis and the efforts made to prevent the disease, the Provincial Government of Cavite led by Governor Boying Remulla, thru the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. George Repique, in coordination with the TB Provincial Coordinating Council and the Department of Health Region IV A, conducted the World TB Day Celebration with the theme “ Unite to End TB” on March 23, 2017 at the Junction Tagaytay, Tagaytay City.
On behalf of Gov. Remulla, Provincial Administrator for Internal Affairs Engr. Enrico Alvarez informed the public on the significant progress of the provincial government in the battle against TB, commending everyone for their untiring effort and determination in combating this airborne disease. "With this year's theme, may we all continue to unite and intensify our efforts to end this fight against TB. He concluded that TB in the Philippines can be conquered.
Meanwhile, Carmona Mayor and Cavite Mayors League President Dahlia Loyola assured everyone that the CML is opening its doors for whatever help it can extend especially in the battle against TB.
The highlight of the program was the awarding of Best Performing Rural Health Units with High Case Detection Rate, which was given to the Cavite City and Imus City 1 & 2 Health Offices. GMA, Naic, Noveleta, Rosario and Ternate RHUs shared the same award. The High Treatment Success Rate went to Alfonso, Bacoor CHO- Greenvalley and Queensrow, Carmona, Gen Aguinaldo, Gen. Trias City Health Office, Indang RHU, Mendez, Silang, Trece Martires City Health Office, De La Salle PPM DOTS Center, St. Martin Maternity & Pediatric Hospital and St. Paul Hospital, Inc. Another award dubbed as High/High went to Bulihan RHU, Dasmarinas CHO - Salawag RHU, Dasmarinas CHO II, GMA RHU II, Kawit RHU, Maragondin RHU, Tagaytay CHO and Tanza RHU. Special Awards were given to Dra. Evangelina B. Manzo for Brgy. Health Management Council pioneer implementer while Dra. Maria Hilda C. Bucu was awarded for her commitment and contribution to National Tuberculosis Program (NTP). The TB in Jail Initiative went to Cavite Provincial Jail.
Likewise, commemorative signing of TB DOTS with the members of the Provincial Coordinating Council together with Mayor Loyola, Dr. Repique, Dr. G. Ilog, Dr. N. Soriano and other Multi-Sectoral Partners was held during the event in the presence of one hundred sixty five participants. (PICAD)
