In its goal to supply treated water to Maragondon Water District, the Maragondon Bulk Water Supply Project was initiated thru a joint venture agreement between Watergy Business Solutions Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Macro Asia Properties Development Corporation (MAPDC) and the Maragondon Water District (MWD). The project will be implemented by the joint venture’s project company, The Cavite Business Resources, Inc. (CBRI). The groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 31, 2017 at the covered court of Poblacion 2-A in the municipality of Maragondon. Present during the groundbreaking ceremony were Maragondon Mayor Reynaldo Rillo, Atty. Marivic Moya , Mr. Patrick Gregorio and Mr. Joseph Chua of Watergy Business Solutions, Inc., Mr. Frando Regno, GM of Maragondon Water District, Ms. Veronica Angeles, daughter of Mr. Manual Angeles, former GM of Maragondon Water District, Ms. Luisa Esqueco, sister of Mayor Rillo, and Barangay Captain Marianito Casatejos of Tulay A.
The project aims to replace the use of groundwater aquifer as the primary source of Maragondon’s municipal water requirement due to its rapid depletion from over abstraction. The lowering of the water table in some of the pumping stations currently used by the water district resulted to increased pumping cost and the deterioration of the water’s quality. The Maragondon River will be the new source of raw water for the said project. The project will involve the fitting of a submersible, overflowing weir across the narrow portion of the river for ease of abstraction and to prevent the intrusion of sea water to the intake chamber during the high tide, a river intake facility, a 200 linear meter raw water pipeline from the river intake to the treatment plant, a conventional, scalable, water treatment facility, and steel bolted treated water reservoirs.
The treatment facility will be located in a four hectare property owned by Cavite Business Resources, Inc. in Barangay Tulay-A. The banks of Maragondon River near the intake will be transformed to a linear park and a river view deck with solar powered park lights to showcase environmental conservation and sustainability.
Initially, the project aims to supply treated water to Maragondon Water District for the improvement of the municipality’s water supply and in the future, to adjacent cities and municipalities currently withdrawing their supply from ground water wells which are prone to saline intrusion within a relative short time due to extensive exploitation. Surface water utilization from Maragondon River will serve as an alternative to avoid environmental damage beyond repair.
Thus, Maragondon River project is of tremendous importance not only to the Municipality of Maragondon, but for the province of Cavite. The realization of this project will have a positive developmental impact on the infrastructure and economy of Cavite province, and with its proximity to Manila on the socio-economic situation of entire Metro Manila as well. More importantly the wellbeing of the citizens will be protected through cleaner air, potable water and healthier environment. (PICAD with reports from Maragondon Water District)
