Cavite Provincial Jail in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), DepEd Alternative Learning System (ALS) and Right Strategy Skills Training Center (RSSTC) held the graduation ceremony of Massage Therapy Completers on May 29, 2017 at the Cavite Provincial Jail Basketball Court, Trece Martires City.
Seventeen (17) inmates and two (2) employee candidates were confirmed and were given their National Competency Certificates from Education officials headed by TESDA Cavite Provincial Director Dr. Rolando V. Dela Torre; DepEd Cavite OIC-Schools Division Superintendent, Ms. Cherry Lou De Mesa; RSSTC Director Rani Saulog; RSSTC Administrator Salvacion Evora; TESDA Instructor Romelen Gigi Echon; Mr. Noel Alegre, CPJ Administrative Officer V and Mr. Charlie M. Garcia, ALS Mobile Teacher.
Ms. Cherry Lou De Mesa congratulated the candidates and encourage them to “continue to believe that better things will happen tomorrow, and that there is always a second chance”. She suggested having a survey on other courses that the inmates may want to take and set a MOA with the Provincial Jail, the Provincial Government and DepEd.
The guest of honor and speaker, Dr. Rolando V. Dela Torre urged inmates to read everyday. “While inside the jail, try to study hard and consider it a House of Learning”, he said. He shared the experiences of 2 famous people, Ex-Senator and former Labor Secretary Blas Ople and Mr. Mark Zuckerber, Facebook Founder who became very successful in their field of endeavor despite not finishing their degrees. He stressed the need to read for competency, confidence, character and a Christ-like attitude. In closing, he assured every inmate that they are all important and well- loved.
Aside from the five (5) honor graduates, the 19 Elementary and 25 Secondary Learners of Alternative Learning System were also recognized and were given certificates.
The Provincial Jail’s literacy and alternative learning program was able to conduct Dishwashing Liquid Making (2012), Hilot Wellness Massage (2013), Manicure-Pedicure (2016) and the latest of which is the Massage Therapy for inmates. --(PICAD)
