Cavite observes 119th Philippine Independence Day

Senator Panfilo Lacson together with Cavite Governor Boying Remulla, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo and Kawit Mayor Angelo Emilio Aguinaldo led the wreath laying and flag raising ceremony at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit in observance of the 119th Philippine Independence Day on June 12, 2017.

With the theme “Kalayaan 2017: Pagbabagong Sama-samang Balikatin,” guest of honor and speaker  Senator Lacson highlighted the importance of celebrating independence amid obstacles faced by the country which include issues on terrorism, corruption and drugs.  The senator also delivered a message of hope and honor to the heroic acts of soldiers and policemen who sacrificed their lives and to the rest who continue to fight terrorism in Marawi City. These men were considered modern-day Katipuneros by the senator.

Meanwhile, Governor Boying Remulla, who welcomed Senator Lacson and Tourism Secretary Teo told constituents to keep paying tribute to the heroes of Philippine Revolution. Likewise, the governor appealed to Congress to pass for a bill declaring May 28 not only a public holiday but a national holiday throughout the country.

Aguinaldo Shrine Development and Activities Officer Gina Ayran with the local government of Kawit and the organizing committee included in the program the presentation of the 2017 Miss Philippines Earth delegates wearing Filipiniana gowns crafted by Caviteño fashion designers. Job fairs and some cultural commemorative performances from the Kawit Marching and Showband, Imus Institute of Science and Technology Singers and from the Kawit Singing Ambassadors were also part of the festivity.
