In line with the celebration of Population and Development Week observed every last week of November each year, the Provincial Government of Cavite through the Provincial Population Office headed by Ms. Lorena R. Cron conducted the Cavite Parents Forum 2016 with the theme, “Achieve: Tamang Laki ng Pamilyang Pilipino” at Trece Martires City National High School (TMCNHS) on November 29, 2016.
The activity aimed to create awareness among parent leaders on the interplay of population, health and environment in their respective areas of responsibility and to come up with common direction to contribute to sustainable human development through collective action.
Provincial Population Officer, Ms. Lorena R. Cron, acknowledged the more than 200 participants composed of parent leaders, barangay service point officers, city/municipal pre-marriage counselling teams, representative from partner agencies including resource persons and city/municipal links. Likewise, Ms. Nezy L. Suayan, Administrative Officer IV of TMCNHS gave the welcome remarks while an inspirational message was delivered by Mr. Marty Amadure, ABC President of Silang on behalf of Board Member Francisco Paolo Crisostomo, ABC Provincial Federation President.
The participants were equipped with the knowledge on increasing population, its implications, Internal Migration and Development in the Philippines and recommendations on the topic Beyond the Population Data: Issues and Concerns delivered by Ms. Marilyn F. Ogaya, Assistant Regional Director-Designate, Commission on Population-Region IV. On the other hand, Ms. Lucia Iraida A. Soneja, Provincial Statistics Officer, Philippine Statistics Authority, Trece Martires, Cavite discussed the 2015 Cavite Census of Population.
An open forum ensued after the discussion of topics wherein participants raised several questions that were clarified by the panellists. After the words of challenge by Ms.Cron, there were responses from the reactors/delegates including Taywanak Ilaya Barangay Chairman Basilio Del Mundo from the municipality of Alfonso, Ms. Herminia Austria, Imus City Population Officer, Ms. Lucy Orsal and Ms. Maricel de Guzman of City Link- Trece Martires City. -- Rebecca Arca Patricio
