The Provincial Government of Cavite (PGC), through the Office of the Provincial Tourism Officer (OPTO) in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Local Government Unit of Alfonso recently conducted the Cultural Mapping Seminar-Workshop on June 26-30, 2023 at MAKA Forest Villa, Alfonso, Cavite.
In a message during the opening ceremony, Provincial Tourism Officer Rozelle Sangalang highlighted the importance of the basic framework on culture and heritage in the context of RA 10066 and other laws and mandate, in order to help the community, appreciate the value of various cultural resources in Alfonso. Likewise, Alfonso Municipal Tourism Officer Louis Miguel Ilustrisimo acknowledged participants and thanked them for their commitment, as well as expressed appreciation to the support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Provincial Government of Cavite.
The five-day Cultural Mapping Seminar-Workshop was handled by accredited NCCA trainers, Ms. Ricamela Palis, Ms. Divine Arawiran and Ms. Maria Lorena Guba, with focus on Culture and Cultural Heritage, What is Cultural Mapping, Research Methods and Ethics, Mapping Natural Heritage.
Participants were able to map out tangible and intangible, movable and immovable heritage sites, cultural assets and significant personalities during the training workshop. Among the major heritage sites and cultural assets mapped out include Saluysuy Falls, Tapatan/Lambak, Pinagsalagan Cave and Taywanak Ilaya, San Juan Nepomuceno Bell, Old Image of San Juan Nepomuceno, Prinza/Gilingang Bato and Municipal Archives (Civil Registry and Assessorās Office).
During the last day of training, the facilitators emphasized how crucial cultural mapping is in preserving the culture and heritage. It will give the municipality of Alfonso a sense of pride, community ownership and identity.
