More than 60 dedicated attendees comprising members of the Cavite Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (PCAT-VAWC) together with municipal and city social workers from various Local Government Units (LGUs) in the province, gathered on March 13, 2024, at The Bayleaf Hotel in the City of General Trias for a capability building event.
The activity, organized by the Provincial Government of Cavite through the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer, aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and strategies to combat the pressing issues of trafficking and violence affecting the province’s most vulnerable populations.
Mr. Alvin S. Mojica, Provincial Administrator for Community Affairs, set the tone with his insightful opening remarks emphasizing the importance of the Omnibus Guidelines for the Protection of Children Against Violence and Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).Ā He urged all attendees to embrace their role in safeguarding children and echoed the need for collaborative efforts across all LGUs.
Representing BM Romel R. Enriquez, Chairperson of SP Committee on Women, Family, Children, Elderly and Social Services, Ms. Marife V. Bautista delivered an inspirational message, underscoring the significance of solidarity and continued support in the fight against trafficking and violence.
The discussion sessions were led by distinguished speakers who provided comprehensive understandings and expertise. Atty. Mary Marjorie P. Martin-Chan, Senior Leader of the National Prosecution Development, and International Justice Mission presented crucial topics such as Understanding Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children, OSAEC Law and its implementing rules and regulations, and Localizing OSAEC Law through local ordinance.Ā Additionally, Mr. Teodulo R. Romo, Jr., Former Assistant Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), shed light on the Gaps and Challenges in Providing Care to OSAEC victims and survivors, emphasizing the necessity of a robust network of support.
The open forum provided a platform for fruitful exchanges and brainstorming on future strategies, followed by a post-test to gauge participants’ understanding and retention of the discussed topics.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Precyl T. Ramos expressed gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and reaffirmed the commitment of the Provincial Government of Cavite to continue its unwavering support in combating trafficking and violence.
