CAVITE LGUs PARTAKES IN THE WORKSHOP ON PLANNING AND DESIGNING PUBLIC OPEN SPACES IN CAVITE TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

The National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and the Provincial
Government of Cavite (PGC), through the Provincial Tourism and Cultural
Affairs Office recently conducted workshop entitled Planning and
Designing Public Open Spaces (POS) in Cavite towards Sustainability on
August 15-18 and 22-24, 2022 via Zoom App. The activity aims to
capacitate the local government units in Cavite in terms of planning and
designing POS as interconnected systems that can significantly increase
disaster resilience of cities and municipalities.

Provincial Tourism Officer Rozelle S. Sangalang delivered her welcome
message emphasizing the importance of POS during emergency and
non-emergency situations in the province.

The Provincial Planning and Development Office presented the overview of
Caviteā€™s Ecological Profile and Planning Environment while Engr.
Verdick Idanan of the Provincial Disaster, Risk Reduction and Management
Office tackled the disaster profile of the province. On the next day,
the following topics were discussed: Disaster Resilience for Sustainable
Development and Values by Landscape Ar. Faith Dimaligan; Planning and
Designing of Livable Public Open Spaces by Dr. Nappy Navarra; and
Creating Viable Public Open Spaces beyond Aesthetics: Strategies for
Disaster Resilience by L. Arch. Vic Dul-loog. On the last day, Ms.
Trisha Anne Padernal and Mr. Michael Pizarro from the Philippine
Institute of Interior Designers elaborated the Psychological Experience
of Space: Principles of Environmental Psychology and Interiority of
Design Framework.

During the workshop, resource speakers asked the participants to prepare
the list of proposed open spaces in their respective LGUs and create a
general policy framework plan, compliant to their LGUā€™s ELA and CLUP
that promotes planning and designing POS for sustainable communities.
The LGUs Silang, Indang, DasmariƱas City, Bacoor City, Tanza, Amadeo,
Kawit, and Rosario presented their outputs.

NCCA Chairman Dr. Rene R. Escalante thanked the speakers for sharing
their knowledge and expertise during the workshop. He also expressed his
appreciation to all the LGUs who actively participated in the 3-day
workshop.
