DILG leads nationwide tree-planting activity in Trece Martires City

In intensifying the campaign on environmental protection, the Nationwide Simultaneous Tree Planting Activity with the themeĀ “Buhayin ang Pangangalaga sa Kalikasan“, was spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Region IV-A in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Provincial Government of Cavite on September 13, 2022 in Brgy. Gregorio, Trece Martires City, Cavite participated by one hundred seventeen (117) volunteers from various sectors.

On behalf of Trece Martires City Mayor Gemma Buendia-Lubigan, Executive Assistant Mr. Dominador Lucero Jr. gave an introductory message saying that the city government has constantly supported tree-planting activities. He also mentioned that the CENRO focused not only on tree planting and cultivation but also on solid waste management in order to segregate, sort and dispose wastes properly.

DILG-Cavite Provincial Director Lionel L. Dalope remarked that the lack of access to clean and reliable water, rather than nuclear war, is the challenge that the current generation is facing. According to him, one agenda is to build a new dam to ensure that the province of Cavite will have a continuous source of clean water which is related to the activity since planting trees contributes to water conservation and food security for both humans and animals.

Meanwhile, in his message, Mr. Januel R. Peras, Officer in Charge of DENR-PENRO, metaphorically compared planting trees to having children that still require nurturing and proper care to grow fruitfully and beautifully.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to all participating departments and offices for their support and contribution to the tree-planting activity.

In conclusion, Hon. Eliseo C. Dela Luya, Barangay Captain of Gregorio, thanked the organizers of the activity for selecting their barangay as the tree planting site in the province.
