A tree planting activity was conducted through the collective efforts of the members of the Santa Rosa Sub-Basin Watershed Management Council (SWMC) in Barangay Carmen, Silang, Cavite last June 24, 2023. Highlight of the activity were the signing of the Commitment Board, affirming their dedication to environmental protection, and the ceremonial tree planting, symbolizing their collective efforts to restore and preserve the local ecosystem.
Participants included CENRO Santa Rosa, Laguna, Asia Brewery, Inc., Laguna Water, Philippine Reclamation Authority, OPENRO Cavite, MENRO Silang, and the Barangay Officials of Carmen, Silang headed by Brgy. Captain Rizaldy O. Malustre. Together they planted a total of 500 seedlings, which consisted of 250 cacao, 95 guyabano, 50 katmon, 95 langka, and 10 giant bamboos from the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
The tree planting activity is aligned with the Cavite Greening Program – the Provincial Government’s continuing advocacy on environmental protection, conservation and rehabilitation of streambanks within the Cavite, spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (OPENRO) led by Ms. Anabelle L. Cayabyab. The initiative not only contributes to the ecological balance of Cavite but also fosters biodiversity and mitigates climate change. It served as a reminder of the power of collaboration and a call to action in creating a sustainable future.
