CAVITE JOINS THE CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

In support of the global campaign against gender-based violence, the Provincial Government of Cavite through the Cavite Gender Focal Point system and PCAT-VAWC participated in the 2019 Regional Kick-Off event in observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) and their Children and International Day Against Human Trafficking (IDAT) on November 26, 2019 at the Cultural Center in Santa Cruz, Laguna.
The undertaking is mandated by Proclamation No. 1172, Series of 2006 that declares November 25 to December 12 of every year as the “18-Day Campaign to End VAW”.  This year’s theme is “VAW-free Community Starts with Me”.
A Regional Situationer on Gender-Based Violence and on Online Sexual Exploitation of Children was presented by Chief, PSGAD Averil Pimo-on of PNP-Calabarzon and Ms. Mellanie Olaño, Senior Social Worker of International Justice Mission (IJM), respectively.  The topic on Parenting Responsibility in the context of Human Rights was discussed by Ms. Aileen Edades, Chief of the Promotion and Advocacy Division of the Commission on Human Rights.
On his message, Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez underscored that citizens should give utmost priority to protect and safeguard the children from any forms of violence and abuse.  He also challenged everyone to make an effort to end VAW.
Highlight of the event was the signing of the pledge of commitment to have a VAW-free community by the participants.
The event was made possible thru the effort of the DSWD Field Office IV-A, headed by Dir. Annie Mendoza.
