Aimed in honoring the elders and embracing their rights, the Provincial Government of Cavite (PGC) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in collaboration with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) spearheaded a simple event for the annual nationwide observance of Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) held at the SM City Trece Martires Events Center on October 19, 2018. Under the theme, “Kilalanin at Parangalan: Tagasulong ng Karapatan ng Nakatatanda Tungo sa Lipunang Mapagkalinga,” fifty-one (51) centenarians took center stage and were awarded certificates of recognition plus Php 50,000.00 cash incentives from PGC for their valuable contribution to the community. Board Members Reinalyn Varias and Homer Saquilayan, who both acknowledged the important roles of senior citizens in nation-building, led the ceremony and took the opportunity to mingle with the elderlies. The province of Cavite has more than 170,000 number of senior citizens to be given the respect, care and love they deserved for being one of the foundations of society. Other guests who attended the celebration were Provincial Health Officer Dr. Gilbert Ilog, PSWDO head Fely Servañez, Provincial General Services Officer Ferdinand Belamide, and Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs-Cavite President Ciriaco Angeles along with other city/municipal OSCA presidents.
